VINO! VINO! FUNICULAR

Vino! Vino!

My dear ladies and occasional gentleman, one of the highlights of our OPORTO holiday was visiting the PORT side of the RIO DOURO.

We traveled down to the PONTE LUIS by FUNICULAR.

I must say as we went over the drop, rather like a slow ROLLER-COASTER, my FUNICULAR tightened!

The walk across the bridge on the two person path with competition for space from passing pedestrians, buses and cars alongside is HAIRY enough to make you DESPERATE for an ALCOHOLIC BEVERIDGE! Although it is handy having the odd WING-MIRROR to apply fresh LIP-BALM!

From the VILA NOVA DE GAIA there is a wonderful view across the river to the RIBEIRA district and the CATHEDRAL reaching towards the sky.

Traditional ROBELO boats UNIQUE to the DOURO region that carry PORT and other goods along the river.

WHITE PORT, chilled 3 euros for TWO glasses of DELICIOUSNESS, enjoyed in a small, friendly local bar. SEVERAL TIMES!

The FABULOUS PORTO AUGUSTOS, one of only three remaining Portuguese PORT businesses. If you only visit one cellar and a WINE TASTING, forget the big boys, TAYLORS, COCKBURNS, SANDEMANS etc., treat yourself to a visit here. Up a little side street and at only 5 euros for the tour and a wine tasting, which is deducted from the price of a purchase if made and who wouldn’t.

The tour was informative, interesting, funny and delivered with enthusiasm by a member of the family; she was clearly a  PORT WINE lover. The tasting was fun and a treat to the taste-buds. Our kind guide brought us EXTRAS, it would have been rude to refuse so we ploughed on with VINTAGE WHITES, TAWNYS and REDS.

We chose a 20 ANOS TINTO, full of flavours with hints of WALNUTS and VANILLA, delicious.

Yours Portily

Celia

TITS IN THE BEDROOM ARE GOOD

TITS IN THE BEDROOM ARE GOOD!

My dear ladies and occasional gentleman as you know we have gone all ORNATHALOGICAL in the bedroom. I have carried out a little RESEARCH and experts say that BIRDSONG and birds are good for the SOUL and BODY.

We can BENEFIT from experiencing WILDLIFE and get.ting CLOSER to NATURE, it LIFTS the SPIRITS.

So I lift my SPIRITS by raising my GIN & TONIC as I go  AU NATURELLE  in the BEDROOM.

Ronald agrees with the EXPERTS he thinks TITS in the bedroom  are GOOD!

Yours Chirpily

Celia

THE BURMA RAILWAY, BUMS & FRIENDS

THE BURMA RAILWAY, BUMS & FRIENDS
So I am just winding down from the pantomime (more about that later) and I went with
my dear lady friends, Gwendoline, Theresa & Christina to the CINEMA to see the film ‘THE RAILWAY MAN’. We took our drinks in with us, ours is a very civilised THEATRE/CINEMA, my drink being ELDERFLOWER. I am afraid rather a lot of ALCOHOL had been consumed the week of the pantomime, so now I am reducing my intake to a glass of WINE with a meal , weekends only.

We had good seats, back row, downstairs and we settled ourselves. Just before the film started a lady climbed up to us and indicated she needed to go passed us to get to her seat on the inside.

“This always ANNOYS ME when someone arrives late and you have to stand up to let them through” she says, chuckling to herself. Unfortunately as I stood up and there is not very much room as you may be aware, my SEAT FLIPPED UP taking my SKIRT with it, giving the people behind me a clear view of my BUM!

The film is quite HARROWING and I am sorry to say dear ladies and the occasional gentleman, that I had to COVER MY EYES at some of the scenes of torture and brutality. One cannot fail to be moved by the HISTORY of the poor men who were forced to build THE BURMA RAILWAY, or of their wives who had to live with these broken men after THE WAR.

This was the second occasion I had cried this evening, the first was watching the NEWS before I left home and seeing the plight of the people of SYRIA.

On leaving the AUDITORIUM a lady was heard asking her friend who the empty seat next to her had been for. The reply was “Oh that’s for my IMAGINARY FRIEND”.

In the midst of TRAGEDY there is still some HUMOUR.

Yours Tearfully

Celia
